Understanding Token Authorities
When you create an SPL token, three authorities are assigned to your wallet by default. You can revoke each one at creation time:
Mint Authority
Whoever holds mint authority can create more tokens at any time. Revoking it makes your total supply permanent and unchangeable. For memecoins especially, traders expect this to be revoked - an active mint authority is a red flag.
Freeze Authority
This authority can freeze individual token holder accounts, preventing them from transferring tokens. Revoking it means no one can ever lock a holder out of their tokens. Most serious projects revoke this.
Update Authority
Controls who can update the token's metadata (name, symbol, logo, description). Revoking it locks your metadata permanently. Do this once you're confident in your branding.
